The objective of a “just transition” was included in the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change. It aims to make the transition to low-carbon economies fair to all stakeholders: workers, consumers, local communities, and society at large.
While workers are generally at the heart of just transition debates, consumers have often been overlooked in discussions around the just transition. Nonetheless, this dimension will be key to consider if the transition is to embark all actors and leave no one behind.
